About This Chapter
Everyone realizes that the angels and the Grim Reapers can work together. They all grew up playing the same piano. It's time for homework. The narrator asks the other angels if they're willing to work with the Reapers. The only one he's seen willing to cooperate is Jones, the angel who came to beg for help and the angel of slaughter who nearly killed him. It feels like they both fear and hate each other, but now everyone hears the sound of the piano and they can see that they are the same. They're not complicated like human beings. Their essences are pure, and there's no way for them to bear each other's pain. They can't bear to bear the pain of death, but music can accept it. So how can you compose a symphony that includes all living things? The narrator says he'll have to write it all down in a notebook. He's going to have to stay up all night to do his homework. He wants to know how to feel loved. He asks the narrator if he has ever been loved, and the narrator says no one has ever loved him. He says that the kind of love that makes people fall in love with each other is the kind that the Grim Reapers hate.
