About This Chapter
In the distance, the two men encounter a river, where they will encounter a barrier. The barrier is at the center of it, where the silver robe is. This is where they are going, but there are many "hollow men" in the way, who won't harm them, but they'll get in their way. The two men move to the other side of the barrier, where there is a gap in the wall. The gap is where the statue of the master is resting. The mirror array is in the gap, but it's just a statue, not the master's body. He doesn't know what to do with it. He throws the mirror away, thinking that the statue is just a robe, but the mirror array isn't a statue at all. It's actually a giant statue, which is why the book is so heavy. He wonders if he can tear it apart, but he can't because there's a gap there. He tells himself that he's solved everything, but then he accidentally scratches his ear. He apologizes for being so intimidating. He says that he accidentally scratched his ear when he entered the gap. He's glad that he didn't tell anyone what he was doing, because then he'd be in a lot of trouble. He wants to hide behind the barrier so that he can see the silver statue later. He also wants to know what he should do if he sees the statue again. He asks if he should just wipe his face. He thinks that's the best thing to do, since he'll have to wait until he sees it later. The light is missing, and the barrier has been opened. Someone needs to watch the two people.
