About This Chapter
It's been a long time since we've seen much of the village, and now it's time for some visitors. We're introduced to a young man named jonny, who's just returned from a visit with his master, Mr. Mo. He's so excited to meet his new friend that he forgets to open the door and asks if he can have some "sweet" with him. We learn that he's going to pick up his friend's sister from the doctor's office, and that he wants to have a "good chat" with his new master. We also learn that the master wants to make some new friends, but that's too awkward for him. He wants to learn how to "use chopsticks" , but he'd rather have a hot pot of soup than learn to use chopsticks. The hot pot is not for drinking, he says, but for "vomiting" . It turns out that the hot pot belongs to him, and the master just drank it without wiping his mouth. He doesn't seem to care about the taste of the soup, but if he did, he wouldn't have to wipe his mouth of the pot in front of the man. He thinks that foreigners stare at foreigners all the time, and he wonders if foreigners are attracted to foreigners because they're "all man-made." He'd like to change the subject to something more interesting, but then he sees that the man staring
