A month later, the family returns to the wedding, where they find a puppy on the balcony. The narrator explains that the puppy is a "friend for kitty" , just as a friend for a cat is a friend to a dog. He says that adults do not have multiple choice questions, and that the things they create will look just like them in the future. He uses the example of a god who had a land and liked spicy food, and whose crops could not support anything because only chilies could yield one thousand cats per mu. The god's land was overcast all day and there were few sunny days a year, and the place under his jurisdiction was gloomy and mysterious. He compares this to the stories of the gods, who were human-like, and who were able to breed prosperous and peaceful worlds.
