The narrator introduces us to a new character named Fang. He's a colleague of Fang's, and the two of them have been living together for a while. Fang tells us that he's not suspicious of the new guy, and that his name is "he fang" , which means "friend" in Chinese. Fang says that he came to dinner because he heard about the dinner and wanted to try it out. He asks about the food, and discovers that it's stewed chicken noodles. He also learns that the dinner is free on New Year's Eve, and he asks why he hasn't heard about it before. He then asks if the guy is "blossombooth," the name of his pet cat. He says that the cat has become a "devil," an occupational disease of the past job. Fang then asks why the guy didn't get home earlier, and finds out that the guy left work early. He tells Fang that he doesn't want dinner with his little buddy, but he also tells him that he wants to sleep with him someday. Fang is furious, and tells him to go back to his old job. He wants to know why he came back so late, and Fang tells him he'll have to pay for it. Fang asks if he likes it when he comes back late.
