Now that they've escaped, the three of them decide to hide out in the tunnel. They're not sure where they're going to hide, but they decide to go for it anyway. The narrator explains that he's not a writer, so he just thought the stories in his head were interesting. He copied them out, and later on, word got out about them. If he really wrote them all, then that's "some epic literary talent" right there. They hide out for a bit, and then the narrator realizes that he can't stand the sound of their fingers touching. It's just an accident, he says, and he and the earl are brothers escaping trouble. He decides to go find food, but then he realizes that the chief priest sent him a bunch of gifts, too, including a toy that he doesn't like to touch women. He tells the priest to "spare himself the trouble" by telling him that he has a special taste.
