In this chapter, the audience is introduced to a number of characters who have been introduced in previous chapters. The first person introduced is a young boy named Nemo, who has just returned from a trip to the moon. Nemo is horrified to find that he has been stabbed in the back with a sword. He is also horrified to realize that his reflection is changing, and that his body is moving in synchrony with the reflection of his reflection. He realizes that he is in the presence of the "Lord of the Mirror Array" , the god of light and death, and he realizes that his purpose in going there is to avenge his family.
