This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter. It is clear that the ghost of the dead man is alive and well, and that he is now a spirit. The ghost tells the story of how he came to be, and how he was taken in by the spirit of his master. He tells the tale of his father's death and how the ghost came to live in the house of his dead master. When the ghost asks about his master, he is told that he was a spirit, but that he did not see the ghost until after his death.
