It's the end of the chapter, and we're back in the house. We're told that the only thing that's left is the ration water, which is supposed to be their "lifeline" . We learn that it's actually a mushroom, which means that they're going to have to use it to get water from the other side of the world. We also learn that this is the first time we've heard that the family is going to be wearing women's clothing. This is a big deal, because it means that we'll have to wear men's clothes for the rest of our lives, and that we won't have the wealth and power that we once had. It also means that our mother is a "mutant" , meaning that she can do whatever she wants with no help from a staff or a mana . This means that she doesn't need a staff at all, because she's able to use magic without one. The only problem, of course, is that she needs a staff to draw the magic circle with her head, so she can't use it with a staff. She needs a mana to move the circle, and a staff helps her draw the circle with the head. So she can use her powers without a staff, but she needs to be able to do it with her mind.
