In this chapter, Maria explains to Nestor that if he wins the duel, he will be able to stay with her and Nestor's daughter, Nelly. Nestor, however, is not so sure. He is concerned about Nelly's safety, and he does not want her to die in the duel. He tells her that he would have been dead if she had caught him. Nestor tells Maria that he has healed all of her injuries, and that she owes him one. He says that he wants the three of them to be together, but that he will not allow it to happen again
