About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a description of the common practice of killing a baby at birth. If the baby is a boy, the nobles will raise him until the girl is born, even if the girl does not have enough mana to raise the child. But if the child is a girl, then the noble will raise the girl until she becomes a member of another family. The problem with this method is that the girl gets all of the mana even if she has plenty of it. The reason for making the remaining humans to eat is to store it in the trees for later use. The trees only consume the mana from the tree form, but once they reach the sap, they can no longer do so. This is why they made the humans eat the food. If they struggle, there is no more food to make them a new body, and they share the fate with them. They are going to the trees because they need more impurities to make themselves new. The three younger brothers they have not seen yet are also gone. The nobles are nervous about how they are being treated by their mother. They wish they could keep the tree down, but they are afraid that they will die if they do not. They do not know what they will do if their mother attacks them.
