On the 31st of December, around 8:30 p.m., a report comes in that the west region of the castle is on fire. When officials arrive, they find the lord already dead. The residents are very agitated and make it harder for the authorities to suppress the uprising. The culprit was the "useless commoners" in experiments. The narrator asks the lord if his mana has declined in the last 40 years. The lord replies that he has not. He tells the narrator that his mana does not decrease as he expected. He explains that the mana of the trees in front of him determines how he lives. He says that it is because of not leaving mana in someone soon to die that the tree rules all creatures in the world. He adds that it becomes a revolt to keep living in the region when one realizes that the region is involved in human lifespan. He asks the narrator why everyone is making a fuss about building statues. He replies that they will live longer than him so why cant they starve. He wants to accompany him to death
