In this chapter, we learn that the protagonist is a "dumb ass" , and that he is trying to break through the "rainbow barrier" . The protagonist is amazed at the man's arrogance, and wonders if he is really from the Five Countries. He wonders if the man is really considered a "talent" from the countries, since only those above the "heaven level" can break through this barrier. He also wonders if this man thinks he is the "martial emperor" of the Nine Skies , which is a reference to the fact that the nine heavens are divided into nine regions. In other words, the protagonist thinks that the man thinks that he can conquer the nine regions of the universe, but he can't because he's above the heavens. This is the first time the protagonist has tried to use his qi , the spiritual energy, to accomplish anything, and he wonders if it's the same thing as the "power" or the "mental or soul power" that he uses to accomplish his tasks. He realizes that the rainbow barrier is not a barrier at all, but rather a "wall of light" that separates the heavens from the rest of the world. This wall of light, he realizes, is the same wall that separated him from the "ancient scroll" that could hide his secrets from the outside.
