In this chapter, the narrator tries to convince the audience that the jade in question is indeed a treasure. He compares it to the smell of the perfume in his glasses, and he says that the smell is so refreshing that it must be a real treasure. The narrator then goes on to say that he has already tested the jade, and that there is no problem with it. He says that he is not afraid of the others, because he has chen qiu on his side. The jade is a worthless thing, he says, because it has gone through thousands of years, and the spirit of the jade within has dissipated. He also says that as a principal treasure appraiser, he should know that enchanted jades are rare now. He points out that Master Yang appraised the jade to be worth 50,000 and a chamber pot worth 80,000, but he didn't mention that it was worthless. He then goes to look at the other treasures in the tower, and finds that they are all worth much more than the jade and the pot.
