About This Chapter
"Smoke and Mirrors" is the title of this chapter's dialogue, and it begins with jesus asking what the heck is going on. He's worried about what's going to happen to him now that he's betrayed his family. He tells kretchmeyer that the gang is real, that scott and his son are running it, and that they're planning to kill Nina if he doesn't help them. He also tells us that he loved Nina more than he ever loved his "real family" . He says that Nina didn't even tell him that he was leaving. He adds that he cut a deal to get some muscle for the gang, and Nina wouldn't have listened to him. She was worried that his feud with Scott was going to hurt his career, and she wanted to keep it a secret from him. He asks her to take him in the bedroom, and he tells her that she's making a big mistake by not telling him that she loves him. If she were dead, he says, he'd follow her to her death, but now that they know where they are going, he wants to shut up.
