About This Chapter
"Hugs, not drugs" is the title of this short scene, which takes place in the summer of 1983 outside of Los Angeles, California. It is set in a bar called "Bosco's Blue Lounge" and is a reference to the fact that the protagonist, James Bond, is in love with one of the female characters in the play. The scene opens with a soliloquy by James Bond in which he tells the audience that he is here to see "the end" of the summer "wiggle fair wiggle wiggle" and that he has been "tempting" to have sex with either of the two female characters. He asks one of them to "lay off" the other, and they agree to do so. He then asks the other girl to "kiss off" him, and he tells her that he likes the idea of "artistic modeling" because it will be "fun - kiss off" . He tells the girl that he still doesn't like her, and she tells him that it could have happened to anyone. She then tells him to stop looking at her and her mother, and to "stop lookin' at butch" , and James tells her to "you sho ' you wasnt peekin' . and sawed its leg tein ' . . kids something new / What do you think?" . James asks the girl why she hasn't mentioned that they split her dress, and the girl says that she is 15 years old and has a lot of "legged cow" in her dress. James then tells the other girls to "hold on" the sheriff, who is nearby, and asks if the girl has done anything wrong. The girl tells James that she has just had a "trucker in my office" named "Bob brubaker" who has come to pick her up. James tells the girls to
