About This Chapter
In this short scene, Scott is in the kitchen of the apartment where he lives when he hears the sound of gunfire. He realizes that it is one of the stray bullets that have been fired at the apartment, and he realizes that the man who fired the first shot is dead. He asks the man if he has seen him before, and the man replies that he has never seen him. He tells Scott that he brought a new pair of glasses for him, and that the glasses are hard to wear because they do not have the same shape as his glasses. He then tells Scott about the prisoner marathon that is taking place at the same time that he is telling him about the bakery that was burned the night before. Scott tells the man that he needs the right person to blame for the murders, because he is thin, athletic, and has a similar height to the person who killed the baker. The man then tells him that he knows that the baker's family burned the bakery because he was the one who cut off the man's left nut for him. Scott asks if he would think less of him if he suggested a retreat from the apartment. Scott says that he thinks they are after him and that he will check on the apartment to make sure that everything is okay. He also tells Scott to listen to him when he says that the fire escape is out of the window. He says that Scott will kill him when Scott finds out that he knew where del was.
