About This Chapter
"The Last Sonny Day" In the summer of 1980 , Scott and his son, Henry, are on vacation in the Bahamas. Henry tells his father that he has found out that Scott and Harry are involved in a plot to kill him. He tells him that he will have to return to the United States to face the consequences of his actions. He says that his parents have never come back from the woods, and that he would never have been able to grow pot if he had his parents as wealthy as they are. He explains that he must return to America because he has spent a year looking for a "spearhead" with a "horny pot head" who "smears bad" . He also says that he cannot believe that he is involved in such a sordid business. He adds that he remembers the night when he was "pissin'" his pants. He asks his father why he should have let him go back with Harry, and he says that Harry is paranoid that the "bolivians" are trying to get rid of him. They need more information, he says, and they need to get him out of the car so that they can exchange it for a new one. Henry says that only a "big shot" would force Harry to kill Henry.
