About This Chapter

"Stray Bullets Volume Four Dark Days" is the title of this four-part omnibus. It begins with the narrator's declaration that he doesn't want his son-in-law to be around "reputable friends" of hiss. He's not going to let his nephew, Scott, hang out with them. He tells his son that Scott is going to teach him "some real man" and that he's going to vote for him. The narrator then tells us that Scott's "secret man stuff" will eventually come back to haunt him. He says that when girls become virgins, they "blew the first time," and that it's cool. Scott says that someday, all of this will all come back and they'll all be together again. He also says that he just saw a "monster" in the distance, and that the monster is not a monster at all, but a "rat." The narrator says that Scott gave the rat a pass, and then he tells the boy that he wants him to be quiet and not cry. The boy agrees, and the narrator tells him to "make me a woman" and to "click hands up" and "amigo" and leave them alone.
