About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's going to have to go back to school. He's not allowed to eat or drink at lunch or snack time, and he can't go to the library or the library alone. He can only talk to his mom in the library. The narrator says that he doesn't want his mom to think that she's being mean to him. He also says that the school has different classes for different kids, so it's hard for him to fit in. He thanks his mom for letting him stay, and says that there are a lot of other kids at the school, so he'll be able to find some new friends. He says that eating is only allowed at lunch and snack time , and that cailue isn't allowed either. He rejects the school's "neoliberal" agenda, saying that he and the other kids didn't do anything wrong, but they just laughed at it. He compares the school to a "dead house" . He asks if the teacher is taller than him, and the two of them agree that they should have taken the gas. The bell rings, signaling the end of the day's lessons. The two students decide that they're going to split up the money they have, and they'll go off to the country to make more money. They'll all have to sneak out of the school before classes start, so they won't have to talk to each other during the day.
