About This Chapter
"The Other People" opens with a soliloquy by the narrator, who tells the audience that he's a friend of Annie's. He's sorry that Annie has run away, but Annie and his gang are still planning to kill them. Annie is taking his kids to school, and Annie doesn't seem to care that his neighbors are watching them. They're rich, Annie says, and they don't need to go anywhere. They just become "other people" . He says that when he told Annie they were leaving town, she panicked, and she didn't have enough time to pack. She'd have been able to pack 30 seconds at most, he says, but she's filthy rich now, and now they're digging up baby blankets. He wonders how they can watch liz, who even saved her baby teeth three hours later. He thinks that maybe Annie will be able to get home soon, and maybe she won't be in trouble. He asks if he can take eddie to dinner in San Francisco, or in toronto, or London, his choice. He wants to take his dog on a regular walk, and he'd like to find someone to walk him. He tells s/he's looking for someone to take him to dinner, but he knows Annie isn't going to go with him, so he'll have to go to bed. .
