He says he wants to believe the man's story, but he can't believe that the man is lying about his past. He asks the narrator to invite him to a "singles mixer" soon, and the narrator says he expected better of him when he first saw him at his entrance ceremony. He tells the narrator that he asked him to come to the mixer so he could show Imamura what a "but man" is like, and he says it's a "this sense of hatred" that's glad the narrator came to him for help. It's not about summer, he says, but about the man and the captain. He thinks the man will understand if they explain everything, and they'll have a good time.
