The narrator tells us that he's lucky that he got scouted. He says that if he hadn't, he wouldn't have believed that he could make it as an actress. He also says that his hand writing is bad, and that he hasn't been able to find any friends in his class since he left high school. The narrator says that the drama club has kept him going since he was so ugly. He's going to join the club, he says, because he wants to be a part of it. He tells the narrator's teacher, imamura, to cheer him up. The teacher tells him that he shouldn't be plucking at his hair in class because no one will stand for it. She says that he should be ashamed of it, and she tells him to get over it, because it's a gross thing to do. She goes on to say that she's sure that the girl on the other side of the room is being bullied by her teacher. She asks the narrator what's wrong, and he tells her that he can't get any money out of her, because she doesn't look like a model. She's cute, the narrator says, and the sooner she becomes a star, the faster money comes in.
