The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Hiroshi, who says that he is sick of being a captain. He says that even if he becomes a captain, he will not skip a beat if he feels like it. He tells us that he will stop once he "hit rock bottom" . The narrator then introduces us to Hiroshi's friend, who was a captain two years earlier. Hiroshi is dressed all in black, and he looks like a hipster. He also says that his college is "strict and old fashioned," and that he's trying to get into the north kanto to become a doctor so he can become a "doctor" there. He's also trying to find a place to live in the north, so he'll be able to get with older women. He then tells us about his friend, summerhiko, who he says is "a sweet summer ho" who has helped him a lot. Summerhiko's nickname is "natsuhiko" , which means "summer" in Japanese, and his first name is "summer." The narrator says that summerhiko is a "sweet summer too positive," but that he isn't a fan of "that" kind of guy. He adds that he doesn't like the fact that he has to give up his job in his hometown to go to college, and that everyone hates him for it.
