In this chapter, we learn that the five kids are in the midst of a battle between the evil spirits of King Zhai and the Evil One. The Evil One is trying to take over the world, and the kids are trying to stop it. The evil spirits are all in the same place, and they're all fighting for the same cause: to take control of the world. They're also fighting for their souls, which is why they all look so different. The kids are worried that they'll be killed if they don't get the protection of the barrier between the two worlds.
