In this chapter, we learn that Lan is a bit of an artist, and that he'd like to meet someone and become friends with that person. He doesn't know yet if he'll be able to do so, but he does know that he wants Lan to remember him and not be friends with him. Lan tells us that he wishes for the friendship to go to hell, but that he really wants to stay friends with Lan. He tells Lan that the next day, he's going to glue a ribbon to Lan's coat case so that it won't fall apart when it's time for Lan to leave. Lan says that he can't really remember what Lan said that day, because he just remembers that Lan was red-lipped, his mouth was open and closed, and his teeth were white. Lan thinks that Lan will always be there for him, no matter where he goes or what he does. Lan asks Lan if he can go with him on his next trip, and Lan says yes.
