In this chapter, the narrator introduces us to a new character, Cai-Liang, who has just returned from a trip to the mountains with his friend zhen-yao. The two of them have been hanging out at the top of a mountain, and the narrator asks zhen to shadow him while he is taking his morning classes. Intrigued by the young man's description of the mountains and his enthusiasm for the trip, we learn that the two men have formed a band, which they are planning to perform at a water park on the following Saturday.
