About This Chapter
"We Are Not Afraid of the Dark" is the title of this chapter's opening scene. It's a reference to the famous nursery rhyme, "Beauty and the Beast," in which a young boy named Nemo is shown to be afraid of the dark. Nemo's fear is that he will be eaten alive by a monster. He is afraid that the monster will eat him alive, and he is also afraid that if he is eaten alive, he will not be able to escape the monster's clutches. Nemo asks the young boy where he is going, and the boy tells him that he is on his way to see a play. The boy asks if he can eat whatever he wants on the way to the theater, and Nemo replies that he may eat as he pleases, but he does not want to take pictures of the play and sell them as entertainment. Nemo then asks the boy if he has a nickname: "Cute cub" or "Jia." The boy says that his nickname is "fake" because his brother is not his real name, and that his younger brother is starting a band. Nemo tells the boy that his band is still looking for new members, and they are still trying to make money, but they are not making any money at all.
