Three weeks later, the narrator tells us that he's about to leave for home. He's going to visit his relatives, but he needs to find a place to stay. The conductor at his school has recommended him to a composer, and he'll be able to travel abroad with him for a while. He also mentions that a science student at the school is also interested in going abroad to study music. The narrator doesn't know what to think of this, but it's clear that the conductor is trying to find someone to mentor him. We learn that the composer's family wants the student to get a master's degree and then a Ph.D. , but the music company won't let the student go because the student is a small celebrity. We also learn that this is the first time that the narrator has ever been in a university, so he thinks that the university isn't the same as the real world. The music company announces that they're launching a nationwide recruitment program for bands. They're looking for people to join their bands, and the narrator wants to know if there's anything he can say to the young people interested in joining the bands.
