The flashback shows that Caixin has returned the letter because he loves Caixin and wants to protect her. Caixin tells the flashback that he loved Caixin as a child, but that he has changed his mind about Caixin since then. He tells Caixin that if he were Caixin, he would tell Caixin the truth about his feelings for her when she was a child and give her a chance to choose between the two of them. The chapter ends with a soliloquy by Caixin in which he says that he will protect Caixin even if Caixin wants to kill her.
