The Governess is in the middle of a soliloquy when she hears the sound of someone crying. She realizes that it is the Governess's servant, Fang, who is crying, and she rushes out to find the servant. She tells the servant that she wants to speak with him, but he refuses, saying that he is busy with his own business. She asks the servant if he would like to speak to her alone, and the servant tells her that he would, but that he will not be able to because of his busy schedule
