The chapter opens with a description of the food served at the house of the "yun family" . The narrator tells the reader that he has been to many places, but this is the first time he has had such a tasty snack. He thanks the family for giving him such a good meal. He asks the guide to tell him about the family's history. The guide tells him that the family has entrusted her with giving him some more food when he goes back if he likes it. He tells the narrator that he likes to learn about the past. He wants to know why the family is trying to force "xixi" to marry the "yin family" instead of her ex-boyfriend. He says that even his former best friend wanted to force her to marry him, but he says that he just took her on a tour of the old house. He then asks the narrator why he thought of getting married, and the narrator says that it is "out of the blue".
