The narrator tells us that he's going to run away, just like his mom. He's not going to be punished for running away, though. He just hopes that his mom will be happy with him. We learn that the narrator's mom is pregnant with a baby, and she's worried that the baby will kick the baby in her belly, which will make it hard for her to sleep. She's also worried that her husband will be angry with her for being pregnant. The narrator tries to calm her down, telling her that she can go home and spend the New Year with her mom, but he can't because he has to go to a banquet that day. He tells her that he won't let her go to the banquet with him, because she is his wife, and he'll protect her from any harm. He says that he doesn't want her to hear the "mawkish love" between her and her husband at the banquet, because he'd rather not hear it at all. He also says that if he had to fight with her, he would fight back without thinking about the consequences. He then tells her to come to his dormitory and cook for him, and that he will take care of her.
