In this chapter, we meet Mr. Yang and his dog, Mr. Yin, who are discussing the recent events in Shanghai. The dog, who is named Mr. Siyu, is a member of the "yin" family, which means that he is related to the "yang" family. The two of them argue about whether or not the marriage between Siyu and her husband, sichen, should be allowed to take place. The argument is interrupted by the arrival of a third dog named Runxiwei, who claims to be a friend of the dog. The three of them decide to go to the house of Siyu's mother, who lives in the city of Suzhou.
