The chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter. In this chapter, we learn that the maid, okyo, has broken a large plate at the banquet. The narrator tells us that the case has been solved, and that the murder has been committed out of love for the dead man's lover. He says that he and his friend, hiro, are back in the real world, and they're wondering how they can get back at it. He tells them that the count of murders in the kingdom has gone up, and it's easy for the murderers to commit them. . He also tells them about the doll that he buried under the cherry blossom, but that he didn't bury it because it was a doll, and he doesn't want to do it again. He asks if there's a way to know what happened to the doll's body, and the narrator tells him that the people who committed the murders were "pow-erful people" in this land, and were revenged for the murder of the man they loved. He then tells hiro that he's been avoiding the truth about the murder for years, and this is the reason why he keeps replaying the events over and over again.
