The next morning, the two men ride to the island to find Riza. As they ride, they notice that the ocean is far away, which means that it's too dangerous for them to go out on the island alone. Riza asks why they haven't told her what happened to her when she was released from prison. The two men wonder if the island is even home to aida, since it seems that the area has avoided being destroyed since the death of the vampire. They look at the town hall and the library, but they can't figure out the past history of the island. They wonder if there's some kind of serial killer or copycat that's been haunting the island for a long time. Roxane says that she's never seen anyone like him before.
