The chapter opens with a police officer, Roxane, asking Roxane if she is all right. She says that she is. The police officer tells her that he has a suspect in the hit-and-run that took place earlier in the day. He tells her to come with him to the police station. The officer tells Roxane that they have found a living suspect and that they are going to come after her. Roxane says that the smell of the crime scene reminds her of the serial killer, and the police officer asks her what she was doing there. She tells him that she did not do anything wrong, but that the place does not seem to make sense to her. She wonders if it is him, and he says that it is not. He says that they must get out of the station, because it looks like they are in another world. He asks Roxane what the hell is going on, and she says that there is no one in the station. She asks if they can go outside to see what is happening, and Roxane replies that they better hold off, because they are preying on the people outside. He adds that there are over ten people who have gone missing in the past month, and that the number is likely to go up in the future. He gives Roxane the pocket book he picked up earlier, and says that he does not know how to read it.
