About This Chapter
This chapter's epigraph comes from a conversation between Tory and Alek. Alek says that his sister is stronger than his sister, and that she's hiding in another room in the city. Alek points out that the city is twice as dark as it used to be, which means that there's a lot of power in the dark. He says that he's going to have to find a way to get to the mansion, since there isn't one there anymore. He also points out how dark the room is, and says that they'll have to wait until the ceiling comes down before they can open the door. Alek thinks that this is a bad idea, since the ceiling is about to fall down. He's not happy about it, since it means that they won't be able to use the light from the cannon to attack the mansion anymore. Alek is also upset that he borrowed the power of the cannon from his brother, who's about to die. He tells Alek that he took the power from him, and used it to capture his sister. Alek doesn't like this, since he thinks that his brother's death would have been a good thing. He wonders if his brother would have chosen to die if he'd known that Alek was going to kill him. Alek also wonders if he would have gotten killed if he had tried to kill Alek again. He knows that Alek would have killed him anyway, since Alek is a vampire. Alek tells Alek to gather the remaining power and go after the enemy.
