About This Chapter
In the second half of the game, Tsubaki is back on the field. He's excited to be back. He thinks that the other players are starting to play better, too, and that they're not backing down. He wonders if this means that coach Tsumi is teaching them how to play, but he also wonders if he's gotten through to the older players on the team. He also wonders why the other team hasn't been able to catch up to them yet, since they've only been playing half the game. When he sees the starting line-up, he thinks that it's going to be a rout. But then he sees that the team is still hanging around at 0-0, and he wonders if it means that the coach is trying to teach the younger players how to be better. He asks Tsuchi if he can really compare to him, since he is so much better than him, but Tsachibana says that he doesn't really want to lose. He wants to get better, he wants to make good, and have fun with everyone on his team. As he watches the team play, he wonders how many saves they made in the first half. Without him, they would have been defeated by shin, he says, and yet he never gets any praise from the coach for his efforts. Tschibana wonders if the other keepers are underestimating each other. He says that they have been fighting each other for a long time, and now that he is the face of the team, he won't let his ego get in the way of his work. When the coach asks him when he gave the players instructions, he replies that he didn't give them any instructions at all. The coach says that the players made their own decision to play a better game than he did, and it was better than he'd ever done before.
