About This Chapter
After graduating from high school, the narrator decides to go to college instead of returning home. He works at a real estate firm in the financial district of Tokyo, where no one knows of the Hase family. The girls who helped him out all come to wish him a good trip. They help him find a foothold, then he goes back to join his current firm. He meets the daughter of the member of parliament in the firm, and they become friends. Eventually, kyozo dies, and the firm is now a regional family that wants to become a nationwide giant. The narrator feels sorry for the family, because they know how hard it is for him to leave them all alone. He tells the story of how his father believed in himself all the time, but the moment things did not go his way, everything crumbled away from him.
