In this chapter, the Governess is horrified by the sight of a frog-like creature in her room. The creature, she says, has hatched in her bedroom. The Governess tells Ruchiko to put the creature under her belly and keep it there all day long. She says she's worried about how she'll make it through the day, since she has to carry the creature around. She wonders if the child will grow up to be a big brother. The child finally lets go of the creature, which is a sign that he's ready to be with his mommy. The children's mother, Mariko, comes in and says that she'd like to have a bath with the child, but she can't because of her sprained ankle. She tells the children to take it easy on her ankle for a while, and then she and Ruchico head back to the house.
