About This Chapter
This chapter's epigraph comes from a soliloquy by Ruchi, who says that his mother is "a sorry sight" . She's been wandering the land for a long time, and she's lost all her human emotions. She doesn't know why she'd be wandering, and her attachment to kuri is still there. Ruchi toasts the fairy-king's dream-stone, which he says will bring him "pleasant dreams." Ruchi says that he's sad that his mom has lost all of her "human" emotions. He's also sad that she'll never be able to love her child again. He says that the night before, he had a dream in which he and Ruchi were "smileing the whole time" , and that's why he hates sleeping on Ruchi's lap. He wishes he could go back to sleep on his own, but Ruchi won't let him. He tells Ruchi to pack up and go have some tea with him.
