He says that his mom and sister didn't want him to do it, but that he did it anyway because he wanted to be a part of it, and that's how he got into it. He asks his mom if she's worried about him, and she says that she was, too - she was worried about how thin he was, and how worried he was about how he was going to get into college, and so on.
