About This Chapter
When young kyozo moves to central Sendai, he sets up a new business. He has some influence with the military, but once rebuilding begins, he becomes a "regional celebrity" . When he dies, people stop talking about him, and he is forgotten. When asked about his relationship with his father, he says that as long as he remembers, he hated being a part of the Hase family, partly because he was treated poorly at home. As the children grew up, they would come back to beg for money. He says that his father acted like a "master of the house" when he was out, and that he was "just baggage" to him. He went away to a school far away, and when he came back, he never set foot in the house.
