In this first part of the novel, we are introduced to a number of characters. The first of these characters is Tamura, who has been having trouble with his math class lately. He tells us that he has read a novel recently and wants to borrow it. Tamura asks him to bring it with him to school so that he can read it to her. He also asks Tamura if he can borrow a reference book from her, too, and Tamura agrees to give it to him as soon as he can. He then tells Tamura that he will have to go to school with Tamura to collect the books from her class. He says that he doesn't think they'll be able to do it right away, but that he thinks Tamura wants to explain something to him after school, so he'll go to the school together.
