In 1701, a year after the battle, the Asanoi have summoned six former retainers to assist them in their quest for revenge. One of the men, Kyuanosuke, tells the others that they were not invited to the meeting and that they are merely looking for a way to get revenge. The other two men, Fujoshi and Tachibana, are jealous of the opportunity for revenge they have been denied.
