About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a discussion between the protagonist and his wife about the disbandment of the school's dance corps. The protagonist is worried that his wife's dismissal will make silvia less popular with the other students. He decides that he will make her popular by making her the center of attention in the class. He tells his wife that he wants to help silvia make friends with other students and that he has already accepted the offer to help her do so. When the protagonist asks his wife why she is so blase, she tells him that she is under the impression that the protagonist is romantically involved with a girl named silvia. She says that she would feel bad if the protagonist were to hurt silvia because of this, and that she wants to make sure that silvia does not think less of Japan because of the situation. She tells the protagonist that she will help him in any way she can. When they arrive at the apartment, the protagonist tells silvia that he is going to host a home party for her and her friends. When he tells her that the party will only have four guests, she says that it is too small for her liking
