In this chapter, we learn that Ming-Gung's health has taken a turn for the worse. He has lost all of his ability to heal, and he has been unable to perform any of his usual tasks. We learn that he has also lost all his memory of the night of the fight, and that he is unable to recall any of the details of the previous night's events. He is also unable to remember what he was wearing that night, and so he has no memory of what happened that night. He does remember, however, that he had a bruise on his thigh, and this bruise has healed. He also remembers that he was tortured the entire night and day, and is certain that he will never be able to regain his innocence. He asks her to put on her shoes so that he can help her.
