In this scene, we learn that the emperor's daughter, the Empress of the Ming, is a favorite of the young man. The young man tells the empress that he wants her to leave the emperor and go to hell. The empress replies that she would rather die than be loved by a man who is not her own daughter. She also says that she wants the emperor to experience the tortures that the world has to offer. She tells him to stop flattering her majesty and to leave her place in the world. He replies that he has made up his mind now that he is single for good. He says that being single may be lonely, and bitter, but that his burden can be lightened this way. He tells her that he will kill whoever she marries. He will destroy any kingdom she goes to unless she kills him on the battlefield. He threatens to snatch her back if she breaks her love for him. He asks her why she is doing this, and she tells him that she is the one who is being bullied. She says that her mother died when she was a child and that she was imprisoned in a cold palace. She was supported by the Ming but she met the emperor. She has never thought of revenge after meeting him.
