In this chapter, we learn that the two lovers are planning to run away together, or else be killed. They decide that they should have some kind of "rules" between them. First, they should not be allowed to kiss each other in the palace; second, they must obey each other wherever they go; and thirdly, they have to be "loyal" to each other. The two lovers agree that they will get married soon, and they vow never to return to the cold palace. They also discuss the fact that Madame Pernelle is still refusing to sleep with the man she is married to, and she is sure that he will change his mind soon.
